Soi & Others' debut collection blossoms with artist Rundi Phelan’s expressive individuality “I love flowers to decorate our living spaces with their colours, shapes, and fragrance,” says Rundi Phelan, Soi & Others’ house artist. “They wake up our senses and punctuate our spaces. I am inspired by the interesting colour palettes of nature.
”Phelan’s signature floral motifs infuse Soi & Others debut collection with a deeply freeform individuality. And her infectious, almost joyful expressiveness mirrors the spirit of the soigné new luxury cashmere line perfectly.
“Let the flowers within each of us blossom,” she pronounces. “I feel that flowers are a metaphor for our own life journeys on this planet. Flowers offer us beauty & insight into the natural world that we inhabit. They bud, bloom, seed, decay, and then return to the earth. We use flowers to celebrate love, birth, marriage and death.
”While the drips and splashes illustrate the moving story of humanity, there’s also an undercurrent of street and punk art thanks to the spray paint, adding depth and history. “Flowers often evoke memories,” says the Toronto, Canada-based artist, whose paintings nod to the past with their vintage tone.
As Phelan reminds us, it’s important to “stop and smell the roses – you know they don’t last long.” But captured in a Mongolian-woven 100% cashmere scarf, they can last generations in your wardrobe.
